Middle Years Programme (MYP)

Middle Years Programme

Welcome to the Middle Years Programme at GEMS International School, Dubai. Serving the needs of students in grades six to ten, the Middle Years Programme is a five year learning journey that bridges the International Baccalaureate Primary Years and Diploma Programme continuum.

The MYP aims to develop active learners and internationally minded young people who can empathize with others and pursue lives of purpose and meaning. The program empowers students to inquire into a wide range of issues and ideas of significance locally, nationally and globally. The result is young people who are creative, critical and reflective thinkers. Through the IB Approaches to Learning, curricular units and developmental tasks are connected to themes that influence not only what a student learns, but how they learn.

undefinedThe MYP curriculum framework comprises of eight subject groups providing a rigorous and balanced education. Subject flexibility in the final two years of the program, allows students to withdraw from certain subjects, while at the same time, selecting options that may assist them in their curricular pathways going into their Diploma years.

As demonstration of the IB continuum, MYP students prepare for the DP Creativity, Action and Service by connecting to a seven-outcome, Service Learning component which can be met both within the curriculum and outside the classroom. Additionally, students in Grade 10 will complete their Personal Project; a personal interest project that demonstrates the student's connection to the Approaches to Learning. It is based on the student’s interests and talents. The personal project, is the link between the PYP exhibition and the DP extended essay.
