  • Overview

The IB Career-related Programme stimulates students to pursue Career-related studies that align with their skillset and interests. It is a two year programme and leads to a qualification that is accepted at 1088 universities across the world as well as other universities based on case-by-case applications through our University Counsellor.

To undertake the IB Career-related Programme students must be motivated, engaged and able to manage their study time outside of class. The programme requires students to commit to deadlines for assignments and all other requirements. For these reasons, the IB Career-related Programme qualification is attractive to many universities, and the holistic nature of the International Baccalaureate means students will receive a broad education that encourages them to be lifelong learners. The IB Career-related Programme is an engaging, dynamic and rewarding experience as students continue their academic studies while preparing for their professional journey.

  • Academic Programme

As a private, co-educational day school, as of the 2021-2022 school year we offer three International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) the Diploma Programme (DP) and the Career-related Programme (CP).

Following the UAE’s educational guidelines, all students must take Arabic until the end of Grade 9, while students who are citizens of Arabic-speaking countries are required to study Arabic until graduation. Muslim students study Islamic Education as part of their academic schedule through the end of grade 12.

The language of instruction at the school is English. Students in Grades 9-12 follow a university-preparatory program culminating in a variety of pathways to choose from, according to every student’s motivations, skillset and aspirations, including the IB Career-related Programme and IB Diploma Programme, amongst others. Graduates will also receive a CIS-accredited GIS high school diploma.

The IB Career-related Programme includes 1 Career-related study, between 2 to 4 IB Diploma Programme subjects and the Core. The Core includes the Personal and Professional Skills course, Language Development, Reflective Project and Service Learning.

We offer 3 Career-related study options and a vast array of higher level (HL) and standard level (SL) IB Diploma Programme subjects.

  • High School Diploma Requirements

To be awarded a GIS high school diploma following the DP track, a student must pass six IBDP subjects with no grade less than a 3, whilst on the CP track a student must pass their Career-related Study, and at least two IBDP subjects with no grade less than a 3.

  • The IB Career-related Programme (CP) at GIS

  • IB Career-related Study Assessment

GIS conforms to the IB Career-related Programme system with grades ranging from 7 (high) to 1 (low) in the case of DP subjects. Students obtain their career-related studies through International Level 3 BTECs (iBTEC). These are awarded grades that range from near pass, pass and exceeding passing expectations. In the case of the CP Core Reflective Project, grades range from A (highest) to E (lowest). Service Learning hour requirements and reflections are authenticated to award the CP Core.

The assessment scheme is used for all internal and external assessments and on official transcripts. GIS only provides end-of-year grades on high school transcripts. Should a mid-year transcript be required for Grade 12 students, it will be noted that the grades are only preliminary (predicted). An updated transcript with final grades will be provided at the end of Grade 12, following the release of IB exam scores in early July.

  • IB Career-related Programme University Admissions

GIS will graduate its first cohort of IB Career-related Programme students in June 2023. Between 2015-2019, the IB reports that IBCP students were accepted at 1088 institutions of higher learning worldwide. Top destinations were the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, The Netherlands, Australia, Switzerland, and the UAE, with a variety of other destinations in Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America represented, as well as New Zealand. We expect that GIS IBCP students will have access to an even wider variety of universities.
