Simon Herbert

Simon Herbert joined GEMS Education as Principal of GEMS International School – Al Khail in 2020. A dynamic, culturally astute school leader skilled at encouraging and inspiring both students and staff. Simon has worked in the education sphere for over 30 years, having taught and held leadership roles in high-profile schools across the globe.

Prior to joining GEMS, Simon was based in China, where he quickly rose to the position of Headmaster of Dulwich College Beijing after initially joining as Head of Senior School. Over the course of his eight years with Dulwich, the school achieved consistently high average IB results as well as superb university placements, while maintaining its holistic and philanthropic values. With Simon at the helm, the school also picked up numerous accolades, including the International Schools Award 2019 for Creativity in Learning and being named the Hurun Education Report’s Top Ranked International School in China.

Simon also spent 11 years with the prestigious Fettes College in Edinburgh, Scotland, first as Head of Modern Languages and then as Housemaster of Glencorse House. During his time at Fettes, he led the introduction of the IB Diploma Programme and transformed the effort grades of his house from mediocre to best-in-college.

As well extensive teaching and education experience, including at schools in England and Kenya, Simon also has strong marketing expertise, having worked across advertising and marketing in London, UK.

Together with an MA in Educational Leadership and Management, a PGCE: Modern Languages and a joint honours BA in French and Latin, Simon is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a member of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference, and a member of the Council of International Schools Inspector. During his time in China, he was also twice elected to the Executive Committee of the British Chamber of Commerce in Beijing.

Kim Conlin

With over 25 years’ experience in international education, Kim Conlin has worked as a leader, teacher, researcher and accreditor in both the public and private sectors in the UAE, UK, Australia, Canada and Japan. She holds two masters degrees as well as the National Professional Qualification of Headship in the UK. Kim has devoted more than half her career to working within the IB framework and is committed to working with parents, faculty and students to create exceptional learning experiences to maximize each child’s learning potential. She ensures wellbeing and engagement empower students to positively approach their own education.

Sarah McLean

An adventurous and globally minded educator, Sarah has held various teaching, middle leadership, and senior leadership positions throughout her illustrious career in education. She spent her formative years in Boston, USA, before attending university in Canada. With a strong passion for travel, she relocated to the UAE over a decade ago and has been with GEMS Education since 2012.
 
Sarah believes in fostering student-driven inquiry and creating meaningful opportunities for integrating technology into the learning experience, encouraging students to push their boundaries and become well-rounded lifelong learners. She also supports teacher training and development programmes that best serve the needs of students and deeply values the extraordinary international community at GIS.

Amanda Murphy

Amanda Murphy is an experienced educational leader with over 25 years in international education. As the Head of Secondary at GEMS International School, she is committed to fostering an environment where students thrive academically and personally. She takes great pride in working alongside a team of talented educators and engaging with students daily.
 
Originally from Ireland, Amanda relocated to Australia as a teenager. Her career has spanned private schools across Australia, the UK, Denmark, Bangladesh, and Portugal, where she has held various senior leadership roles. With 15 years of executive leadership experience, she brings a wealth of expertise in curriculum development, school administration, and student-centred learning.
 
A passionate advocate for the International Baccalaureate (IB) for over two decades, Amanda firmly believes in its holistic approach to education. She values the IB’s emphasis on developing critical thinking, global-mindedness, and interdisciplinary learning—skills essential for success beyond the classroom.
 
Recently relocating to Dubai with her husband and two daughters, both of whom attend GIS, Amanda looks forward to deepening her connection with the school community. She is dedicated to strengthening relationships with students, staff, and parents as GIS continues to grow.

Aamna Thomas

Aamna started her educational journey in 2009 in the U.K. and has also worked in schools in The Hague and Amsterdam. She has been in a leadership position in IB schools since 2018.

Aamna holds a Masters in International Education with a distinction, a PGCE in Primary Education, a Law Degree and has completed the School Management and Leadership Certificate at Harvard Business School. Her expertise as a CIS and IB Evaluator Leader allows her to improve schools' practices and standards. She is an advocate of student agency and leads with compassion and integrity. She is passionate about evolving education in schools to ensure students are set up to be successful in the future.

Aamna thrives in working in an inclusive and diverse school community and values developing positive relationships with all stakeholders.

Wanita Woithe

Wanita brings over 15 years of experience in early childhood and primary education to GIS. Throughout her career in South Africa, Cambodia, and Mozambique, she has thrived in both corporate and educational settings. She has worn many hats - Teacher, PYP Coordinator, Head of Early Years, Education leader, CIS Accreditation Coordinator, and CIS Team Evaluation Facilitator - all fueled by a passion for creating a dynamic, nurturing, and equitable learning environment.

Wanita’s core belief is in fostering well-being and strong relationships. She envisions a school where every learner flourishes academically and emotionally, equipped with resilience and empathy to face the future. Wanita is deeply inspired by the philosophy of Ubuntu - "I am because we are" - and believes in the power of collaboration to achieve collective success.

Wanita holds a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Development, an Honours Degree in Education, and a Master of Science.  She is thrilled to be part of the GIS community and looks forward to working with all of us.

Nic Walters is an experienced educator and school leader with over a decade of service within the GEMS Education network. Since moving to Dubai from the UK in 2011, he has held a variety of teaching and leadership roles across two Dubai-based schools and within the wider GEMS Middle East network.
 
Passionate about fostering progressive skills and values, Nic is committed to enhancing the school experience through collaborative partnerships that support student wellbeing, personal growth, and long-term learning success. Harry Allen

Harry Allen is UK native, married with one daughter. Mr. Allen completed a B.A. (Hons) Theatre Arts at the University of Leeds, UK before going on to complete a MA (Education) at the University of Nottingham. He started his International teaching career in Singapore, where he remained for 18 years. During this time he was the Assistant Principal at ISS International School from 2011 – 2014. Mr. Allen moved to Dubai in 2014 where he took on the role as Deputy Head of Secondary at Emirates International School. He remained in this role for 4 years. Prior to moving to the UAE,  Mr. Allen was based in Mauritius where he was the Founding MYP Coordinator at Northfields International School.
