GIS House System

Four Houses, One Home

The House Pastoral System at GIS

At GIS we believe that school spirit is at the forefront of what we do, and has a strong correlation with the International Baccalaureate programme that we follow. The House system offers many opportunities in terms of participation and leadership for students to be able to form an identity as part of a community of learners.

With the aim being to create whole school spirit with in a competitive setting, students are divided up into 4 houses. A number of inter-house competitions, as well as daily collection of points within lessons and throughout whole school life is the main ways in which students can collect points for their houses. The houses will compete in a number of sporting, academic and cultural activities for points. At the end of each month, potential prizes are on offer for the house that is currently leading. At the end of the year, trophies will be given to the winning house in PYP and MYP, as well as an overall winning house prize.

The house system at GIS helps to incorporate a whole school community spirit, as well as create a healthy rivalry amongst the 4 houses. Each house has their own motto, under the umbrella of the house system motto, which is “4 houses:1 home.” Each house has a Head of house, as well as student representatives from each grade level. Staff members are also assigned to a house. These are elected by the students in an official election process at the start of the year.

The House system aims to give students an identity and a sense of pride in a supportive, secure environment. The Houses provide an opportunity for positive competition and a closer relationship between students and teachers. They also aim to help new staff and students adapt to the culture of GIS.

The names of the 4 houses are:

Red Raptors

Green Mambas

Yellow Pythons

Blue Dragons
